Lori McCullom, RECIPIENT OF THE 2008 YOU AWARD

NOMINATOR'S STATEMENT
Lori McCullom is my mother's Care Manager. Lori's an angel. If it weren't for Lori my mother would be 'down-the-tubes' so-to-speak. Lori has a sense of humor, she's adventurous, has amazing empathy particularly w/ the elderly. When I had an exhibition of my work in a museum in CT, Lori decided it was necessary that my mother see it. Lori took care of every detail and did it all as a present to us. I remember Lori touching my arm as we entered the show, saying "Watch her” (my mother's face). Lori takes my mother to all of her medical appointments and facilitates communication among all of her doctors. Lori frequently takes her out to lunch afterwards. My mother had a successful career in education and Lori asks advice about her young son. She treats my mother with respect and sensitivity. She also hires the aides who spend some of everyday in my mother's apt. We are currently dealing with a move to Assisted Living, which is so very difficult. Lori is making it as graceful as possible for all of us. Dealing w/ a deteriorating parent is extremely difficult; to have someone like Lori on the team adds lightness. I can depend on and trust her, I experience her as a great friend. I want o acknowledge her steadfast dedication to my mother and to her work with the elderly, her compassion and sensitivity and just applaud who she is as a person—she deserves a YOU award.
